Questions? Contact Disability Management Services

Overview

Priority reassignment is a process where a qualified employee with permanent work restrictions may receive priority selection for another position at the University, as part of the interactive process.

Criteria

To be qualified to submit for positions under the priority reassignment process, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Have been qualified for your role to begin with;
  • Have received permanent work restrictions from your health care provider;
  • Have engaged in the interactive process with Disability Management Services (DMS) and your department, and it has been determined there are no accommodations that allow you to continue working in your regular job; and
  • It has been determined during the interactive process there are no open positions within your home department for which you are qualified.

Priority reassignment process

Step1

Starting the process

You will work closely with a DMS analyst who will assist you with the following job search aspects:

  • transferable skills analysis
  • resume preparation
  • job seeking skills training
  • identification of appropriate job openings
  • preparing for the qualifications assessment

Step2

Submitting to positions

Your active participation in this process helps to ensure that all available options will be identified. Your understanding of open positions occurs as follows:

  1. The DMS analyst will instruct you on how to submit to open positions in the online applicant tracking systems, including positions at both the campus and health system. This step may also include a meeting with a Talent Acquisition specialist.
  2. Each week, the DMS analyst will email you the new campus and health job postings. We also encourage you to independently continue searching openings via the online system.

DMS may make recommendations to you but you also are responsible for identifying positions you would like to be considered for and applying for those positions via the online job search systems.

If you are interested in submitting to a promotional opportunity, you may do so. However, you will not have priority rights for promotional opportunities; you will be part of the competitive labor pool.

Step3

After submitting to a position

  • After you submit your resume online, inform the DMS analyst of those position(s) by emailing the 5-digit requisition number.
    • The position you submit to must be at or below the level of the current position you hold to be considered under priority reassignment.
  • When appropriate positions are identified, the DMS analyst informs the TA specialist that you are a priority reassignment candidate.
  • The TA specialist reviews your qualifications and, if you meet the required qualifications, forwards the resume to the hiring manager for consideration.
    • If the TA specialist has additional questions about whether you meet the required qualifications, the DMS analyst may reach out to you to inquire further about your skills and/or experience. You will be asked to provide your feedback in writing.
  • The hiring manager may engage in a non-competitive interview (called a “qualifications assessment”) with you. A Talent Acquisition specialist may be present.
    • If the hiring manager has additional questions about whether you meet the required qualifications, the DMS analyst may reach out to you to inquire further about your skills and/or experience. You will be asked to provide your feedback in writing.
  • If you are qualified, you will be offered the position by the hiring manager.
    • You must accept the first offer you receive.
    • Declining a position you are qualified for may result in concluding the interactive process. DMS will speak with you in detail if you express that you are declining a position offered.
  • If the hiring manager believes you do not meet the required qualifications, you may be disqualified from the position. The DMS analyst will notify you of the disqualification. If you are not in agreement, you may provide feedback to the DMS analyst and we will consider your response.
